Motivational Interviewing Workshop
Saturday December 17, 2016
Our Motivational Interviewer Workshop was an interesting opportunity for ITS participants to take part in. Players, coaches, mentors all gathered together to learn a basic concept of Motivational Interviewing. The goal was simply to incite change and inspire people to help.
The workshop cover 4 steps of motivational interviewing. Open ended questioning, affirmation, reflective listening, and summary. Also known as oars.
Dr. Luis Clement was the facility for this workshop. He brought great knowledge and connected very well with the group. He was able to keep a fun learning atmosphere and at the same time managed to deliver a very complex workshop. He did a good job.
Props to the youth that stuck in and gave up their Saturdays for something so powerful. As mentioned in the training by Executive Directory Angelina Renteria, "most people do not learn about MI until later into a career, and our youth is learning about it early."
Now we look forward having those who participated in the workshop, actually use the skills they learned. We want to see this bring a positive impact on our community.
